Warmer weather is on the horizon but we are soaking up the last days of winter here in the Midwest. This past weekend we had the amazing opportunity to spend a day at Wilmot Mountain.
Wilmot Mountain located just over the Illinois/Wisconsin border and roughly an hour from Chicago, has some of the best skiing slopes in the Midwest. Since 1938, Wilmot Mountain has enchanted families as one of the Midwest’s premier Winter destinations for snowsport activities. Wilmot has made skiing, snowboarding, and tubing an easy, accessible, affordable and fun trip for the whole family.
Wilmot boasts 120 skiable acres, 23 trails, 7 lifts, 2 "magic carpet" conveyor lifts and progression terrain parks! There is enough terrain to challenge experts to beginners, day or night. Wilmot also offers tubing just around the corner from their ski trails!
I remember my first time skiing at Wilmot, you see it was my first time skiing all together. I remember taking a class with the ski school and leaving confident I would be skiing for years to come. Fast forward (ahem) 20 years later and Wilmot is not the Wilmot of yesteryear.
In 2016 Vail resorts acquired Wilmot Mountain and added it to their list of amazing resorts. Over the summer of 2016 they began renovations on the existing Wilmot site, investing $13.5 million dollars into the project. Vail resorts created the Epic Pass- celebrating their 10th year this year allowing one pass to access resorts nationwide.
Their list of resorts includes:Vail, Beaver Creek, Whistler Blackcomb, Breckenridge, Keystone, Park City, Heavenly, Northstar, Kirkwood, Stowe, Wilmot, Afton Alps and Mt. Brighton Perisher, Arapahoe Basin and this year Telluride!
Upon arriving to Wilmot we checked in and immediately went to pickup Aydin's skis from ski rental! (Andrew and I own our own ski's) The staff at the rentals were so very accomodating, walking us through each step, suggesting size and fit and helping us choose just the right pair!
Ski specialists match you to the perfect pair, based upon height, weight and skill level
Color is important too (says my fashion kid)
I recommend cold weather gear for your toddler, it will keep them warm without overloading them with bulky clothing that may cause them to sweat.
We were paired with the perfect set, fitted to his boot size

I was honestly shocked Aydin was so excited about skiing. If you're taking your little one to the slopes I suggest reeling them in and getting them excited about the idea of skiing. The week prior I had shared videos of other kids skiing and, allowed Aydin to pick out his own goggles and helmet. At his age I try my best to have little to no expectations when it comes to new experiences, but I too get nervous when he tries new things.
We headed for Ski School and were greeted by Mr. Dave. He introduced himself, speaking soft and slow and focused on addressing Aydin and making him feel special rather than just talking to us.
We loaded up his gear and headed for the "bunny" hills for Mr. Dave & Aydin to carry on their lesson.
I would suggest getting your little one long mittens, I found that little fingers are EXTREMELY hard to place into gloves! Fitted mittens with a long wrist band help them to stay on and keep snow out.

We made our way to the lesson area where Mr. Dave immediately started his lesson. From balance to stance he dove right in.
Aydin seemed as though he was having a hard time focusing, Mr. Dave suggested that we leave and come back roughly 30-45 minutes later.
Andrew and I picked up our skis and hit the slopes ourselves! (woot woot)
What self-respecting fashion girl would not have fashionable skis, poles, and boots!
After severl trips down the hills we thought it time to head back to check on their lesson.
AYDIN WAS SKIING
Mr. Dave helped him up the bunny hill and away he went!
After a brief meltdown towards the end of his class we opted for a break for lunch. Wilmot offers both self service and full service dining options along with two bars. You can enjoy your meal or beverage while watching over your child's ski school lesson from the dining room.
We opted for the self service and treated ourselves to THE best bloody mary!
There are tons of meal options for the entire family, bonus it is super affordable!
After lunch, we headed back out to the slopes and continued our very own lesson with Aydin. After a short, while he was onto the "magic carpet" lifts skiing past adults and kids alike, and in the end he was begging us to get on a lift!
Although winter sports season here in the midwest may be almost over, our memories at Wilmot remain fresh on the brain. Im sharing with you ways that you can still soak up some last minute winter fun with Vail Resorts!
Wilmot will be open for skiing fun this weekend!
